SwitchIQ – The most sophisticated Home Automation System

At Technofection we passionately do R&D in the field of IoT (Internet of Things). After Trakomatic, the next product we have worked on is SwitchIQ. This is an electronic module which is built using a Wi-Fi chip and current controlling circuitry. This device can control power of electrical appliances as per user’s commands. The device can be controlled from anywhere using a mobile phone.

SwitchIQ can even turn ON and OFF appliances smartly based on pre-defined schedule. SwitchIQ converts your conventional electrical switch boards into a smarter switch board.

Reason behind another Home Automation System

There have been lots of development in the field of office and home automation, but in most cases the systems have been really costly and not affordable to common people. Thus we thought of a system that would be smart and commercially affordable.

SwitchIQ comes as retro-fitted with many modular switch boards by our network partners. The product can also be installed in an existing conventional switch board easily. The product has mainly two types of controller in it.

Relay Based Switching Control

Relays are electromechanical switches, used to control the several circuits by using low-power signal or one signal. These are found in all sorts of devices. Relays allow one circuit to switch a second circuit which can be completely separate from the first.

TRIAC Based Dimming Control

The TRIAC dimming controls uses phase cut-off technique to control the power going to an appliance. The dimming controls can be used to increase and decrease the intensity of lamps and speed of fans.

The switch controls can switch ON and OFF a load of up to 10 amps and the dimming controls uses phase cut-off technique to control the power going to an appliance. The dimming controls can be used to increase and decrease the intensity of lamps and speed of fans.

A great advantage of SwitchIQ is that unlike the conventional dimmers and regulators, the dimming controls in this product saves electricity using latest technology. When you use a conventional regulator to lower down your Fan speed, it does not save energy (electricity), but if you do the same with the dimming control of SwitchIQ it saves energy.

SwitchIQ comes in different model names. Different models differ by number of available Switching Controls and Dimming Controls. The tiniest model in SmartSwitch family is 4S0D0R. This module has got 4 switching controls only. The other variants got varying number of Switching and Dimming controls.

Installation of SwitchIQ is also very easy. One needs to provide AC power to it (It has an in built SMPS module for AC to DC conversion) and then pull out the wires from your existing switches and connect them to the ports of the SwitchIQ. For example, if you have a 4S1D0R model of SwitchIQ, then you will have 6 ports in it. You need to connect AC mains to one port and the rest 4 ports works as switches and 1 port work as dimmer. So simply, pull out 4 pair of wires from your conventional switches and connect them to the 4 ports of SwitchIQ and you are ready to operate it.

SwitchIQ can work with or without internet. It does not require any internet for its basic operation. It has got a built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, which can be used to operate the device using our Mobile App. The only problem with this method is that, you need to connect to the individual devices Wi-Fi hotspot to operate it. On the other hand if you have got a router, then operating multiple SwitchIQ devices becomes easier. The devices can be configured to connect to your Wi-Fi router and then you can operate all the devices in your home or office network without switching your mobile Wi-Fi connection again and again. If your router has got an active internet connection, the SwitchIQ devices can be connected to the cloud and in that case you will be able to operate the devices from anywhere in the world.
